The importance of FIBRES

The Importance of FIBRE

Dietary fibre are made up from a very large complex group of substance. Although it is largely composed of carbohydrates, it is not broken down by the body for energy. Fibre is only found in plant and because its resistance to digestive enzymes, it passes trough the gut without being absorbed, helping to soften and increase the bulk of stools. Insoluble fibres (rice, nuts, wholegrain and dried food) speeds the passage of food through the intestines and may help PREVENT the build up of CARCINOGEN that could cause CANCER to COLON.

Water soluble fibres (fruits and vegetables) lowers blood cholesterol levels and inhibits the absorption of glucose into the bloodstream, preventing a sudden rise in blood sugar, which is important for DIABETICS.
